About

This is probably no surprise, but I LOVE making artwork!  For me, it feels like a problem solving exercise where you might not know what the result will be, but you keep solving smaller puzzles of light, shape, and color until it makes sense.  My favorite part of this process is when everything begins to come together and I can finally see the finished artwork taking shape.

When I'm not painting, I love spending time with family and friends, playing pickleball, visiting beautiful churches, seeing bright orange sunsets, and hearing people laugh.

Recently, I began participating in local markets as a vendor and occasionally teach classes at local art centers, so you may see me around the Upstate!

Bio

Originally from rural Michigan, Abigail St. Clair is an artist in Greenville, South Carolina.  She recently received her Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Painting and Drawing from the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University.  Her acrylic paintings and charcoal drawings have been shown around the upstate, and in local and national literary magazines.  In addition to building her portfolio, Abigail has plans to pursue a career in higher education, and continues to teach courses at art centers in the upstate.

Artist's Statement

My work includes acrylic paintings, charcoal drawings, and pyrography pieces inspired by the natural world. Over the last couple of years, I have been creating layered landscapes that interact with linear forms. For me, these layers serve as a metaphor for the unfolding of a divine plan. I have also been incorporating math equations or physical diagrams in my work to show the consistencies in a world that evolves over time. Ultimately, my art has become a way of getting to know the world and its Creator, allowing me to investigate the way a plan can remain present in a world defined by variability. My goal is to create work that captures this paradox and offers viewers a space for contemplation.
